Meet some of our staff:
Sr Jemma Gillespie- Surgical Manager, Day Procedure Unit Ulster Hospital
My name is Jemma Gillespie, and I am the Band 7 surgical Manager of the Day Procedure Unit (DPU) in the Ulster Hospital. I started in DPU in 2009 as a band 5 staff nurse and have progressed to where I am now with great support from colleagues and management. The day procedure unit encompasses Surgery, Anaesthetics, Recovery and Endoscopy, and is an amazing place to work. There are many different roles and learning opportunities for new staff within our unit. There is a lot of scope for career progression within the Day Procedure Unit, as day surgery is ever expanding and pushing boundaries to provide an improved and streamlined service.
SN Sara Cully- Band 6 Anaesthetic Nurse
I am an Anaesthetic Nurse in The Ulster Hospital. I had a student placement in theatres and knew this is where I wanted to work in the future. After I qualified, I started as a band 5 staff nurse and completed my rotation through all specialities. This gave me great exposure to scrub side and sparked my interest in anaesthetics. I applied to QUB to complete the Peri-operative course which included experience within anaesthetics. With excellent support and teaching, I am now a band 6 Anaesthetic Nurse.
