Parkinson’s Nursing Service

The South Eastern HSC Trust has a temporary full time Parkinson’s Disease Nurse covering the whole geography of the Trust to provide:

  • Information on Parkinson’s Disease and its progression
  • Support for the person living with Parkinson’s Disease, the carer and the family
  • Neurological and psychological support in managing the symptoms
  • Advice on medication management
  • Information on community care support services
  • Liaison with consultants & GPs plus referral to other members of the health and social care team

Nurse led clinics are held in several locations – Bangor, Hillsborough and the Downe. Home visits are a major part of our service particularly if clients are unable to get to clinic.


  • Referral

    Patients referred to the service must meet the following criteria:

    • Have a new or existing diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease diagnosed by a consultant
    • Live within the South Eastern Trust

    Or

    • Have a complex need relating to worsening of symptoms beyond normal day-to-day variations

    Or

    • Require Palliative support and management
