Trust Plastic Surgeon Awarded for Exceptional Standard of Training

23rd December 2021

Northern Ireland’s Regional Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Department has been recognised nationally for the exceptional standard of training provided as the best in the United Kingdom.   Mr Alastair Brown, Consultant Plastic Surgeon (South Eastern HSC Trust) and  Training Programme Director, was last week awarded the National Trainer of the Year Award in London by Plasta,  the UK’s Plastic Surgery Trainees Association. It is awarded annually on a competitive basis to trainers who have gone above and beyond in their efforts in the training and education of surgical trainees in their final sub-speciality years, before becoming Consultants.

The award comes on the back of the 2021 national GMC survey that indicated Plastic Surgery training in the Northern Ireland deanery is the highest scoring training environment across multiple domains out of all United Kingdom regions. The consultant body who facilitate training in both the Belfast Trust and Ulster Hospital Site are to be congratulated for this outstanding result for the unit.

Charlie Martyn, (Medical Director, South Eastern HSC Trust) said, “As Trust Medical Director I am extremely proud of the achievement of this prestigious national award. I wish to pass on my personal congratulations to Mr Alastair Brown our Training Programme Director and Consultant Surgeon.  I know the hard work that has gone in to this. Well done.”
