Downe Hospital

The hospital has 49 inpatient beds for a range of medical conditions. The Downe provides the Trustwide Bowel Screening Service and Sexual Health Service, as well as a range of outpatient, diagnostics and day case services, such as cataract surgery. Two GP practices are located on the first floor, along with community and dental services.

  • Getting there

    By Car
    The Hospital is easily accessible by car from Downpatrick via Ardglass Rd. It is also accessible via the Struell Wells Rd and Flying Horse Rd.

    By Bus
    The hospital can be accessed via the 315A Town Service from Downpatrick. The 16A Ulsterbus service also provides a link to the Downe Hospital.

  • Urgent Care Centre

    All patients must PHONE FIRST prior to attending (028) 4483 8091

    Our PHONE FIRST Urgent Care Centre is a Consultant Led service equipped to diagnose and treat with many of the most common ailments that affect people who may attend an Emergency Department. The service is open from 8am- 6pm, Monday – Friday, on an appointment only basis.

    Anyone contacting the service will be assessed over the phone and offered an appointment either in the Urgent Care Centre or directed to the most appropriate service.

    If you have an Emergency you should dial 999.

  • Minor Injury Unit

    All patients must PHONE FIRST prior to attending (028) 4483 8091

    Our PHONE FIRST Minor Injury Unit is open Saturday – Sunday, 9am – 5pm, by appointment only.

    Those contacting the service will be given an appointment as appropriate.

    A Minor Injury Unit can treat injuries that are not critical or life-threatening. You may wish to consider attending a Minor Injury Unit if it is suitable for the type of injury that you have.

    What can be treated at a Minor Injury Unit?

    Types of injuries include:

    • Injuries to upper and lower limbs
    • Broken bones, sprains, bruises and wounds
    • Bites – human, animal and insect
    • Burns and scalds
    • Abscesses and wound infections
    • Minor head injuries
    • Broken noses and nosebleeds
    • Foreign bodies in the eyes and nose
