Environmental Cleanliness – Bangor Hospital

Environmental Cleanliness is provided throughout the South Eastern Trust by our Domestic Services Teams to keep Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Children’s Homes, Health Centres and communal office areas clean and hygienic.

Service Assistants work in clinical and non-clinical areas. They have a very important role in the fight against healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), Domestic Services staff play a key role in maintaining cleanliness standards within the hospital environment to reduce infections to patients. Evidence has suggested that even though hand hygiene is the number one way to prevent the spread of infections, the main protection against environmental contamination and subsequent HCAI is appropriate cleaning.

Porters provide a vital service throughout the hospitals within the South Eastern Trust. Hospital porters undertake a variety of duties including general portering, Postal, Charts, X-Ray, Emergency Department, Lab Porter and pharmacy portering.
