Admission to Hospital

Please provide information before your admission for any extra assistance you may need such as assistance to get to your ward or any allergies you suffer from. The Trust will take these into account and help make your stay as comfortable as possible.

What to bring

When coming into hospital, you are encouraged to bring the following appropriate items:

  • Admission letter and any other relevant information from your GP
  • Nightwear, dressing gown and slippers
  • Face cloth and Towel
  • Toiletries such as toothbrush, tooth paste, shaving kit
  • Brush/ comb
  • Books/ magazines
  • A small amount of money
  • Appropriate medicines (see below)

Please do not bring:

  • Large sums of money
  • Jewellery
  • Valuables
  • Electrical equipment
  • Perishable food and drink

The Trust will not accept liability for patient’s personal property, valuables or money brought onto its sites. Money may be handed over to a member of staff for safe keeping in some circumstances.

Clothing and Laundry

Please send any unnecessary clothing or personal laundry that needs cleaned home with a friend or relative. The Trust will not launder personal items and will not accept liability in the event of damaged or lost clothing.

Medicine

It is important during your stay in hospital to make clinical staff aware of any medicine you have or are currently taking and any medicines you are unable to take. This should include prescribed, homeopathic, dietary or herbal medicines. This will help provide an accurate medical history and will help staff to prescribe medicine safely.

Catering

Patients/visitors should not bring hot or chilled food into hospital for patients unless agreed with the ward sister or charge nurse first.
