Children’s Craig Ward
Craig Ward, based in the Ulster Hospital, is a multi-specialty unit caring for children and young people from birth up to their 18th birthday. We provide care in partnership with all who attend our unit.
We are a Day Surgery unit and In-patient Ward caring for both surgical and medical patients. Community Dental is also located within the unit.
You will find us on the 3rd floor at the front of the main hospital building.
Our specialities include:
- ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Surgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Maxillo-Facial Surgery
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- General Surgery
The vast majority of admissions to Craig Ward are booked elective patients. We also care for children and young people who are admitted from the Emergency Department.
Many of our patients stay for only a day, but there are occasions that you will be required to stay overnight or for a longer period.
Children and young people begin their journey with the community dental team. They will assess the need for dental extraction under general anaesthetic. All general anaesthetic’s take place in hospital as a day procedure.
Craig Ward cares for a small number of young people who are managed by our adult medical team. We also have input from CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services).
Those requiring laser therapy for removal of birth marks under general anaesthetic will come to Craig Ward for a nursing assessment. The laser therapy takes place on the 1st floor of the main building.
Children who have been assessed to require a general anaesthetic for MRI will come to Craig Ward for admission as a day procedure. The MRI takes place in the Radiology Department on the ground floor of the main building.
