The AHP Hand Therapy and Plastic Surgery Department offers assessment and treatment for hand conditions, injuries and other presentations under the care of Plastic Surgery or Rheumatology. We can help speed up your recovery after an injury, surgery or post developing an acquired condition. Our teams help people to use their upper limbs and hands more easily to perform everyday tasks.

We also work alongside a multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Surgeons, Doctors, Nurses and Clinical Psychologists across Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic, Emergency Department and Rheumatology specialties.

Plastic Surgery Therapist Led Clinic (TLC)
The Plastic Surgery Therapist Led Clinic (TLC) is part of the Regional Plastic Surgery Service in Northern Ireland being a service for patients that would have traditionally been followed-up in a Consultant Led Clinic. The TLC is run by Advanced Practitioner Hand Therapists who manage patients’ rehabilitative care after upper limb / hand trauma or surgery and for patients with congenital as well as acquired conditions, referring on to the Plastics Core Hand Therapy Team where appropriate.

Plastic Surgery Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy
The Core Plastics Therapy Team are made up of both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. We primarily provide specialist assessment, treatment and splinting for upper limb / hand injuries and acquired conditions. Our input can also relate to other speciality rehabilitation management and reviews for those who are under the care of a Plastic Surgery Consultant or the Therapist Led Clinic (TLC).

Orthopaedic Occupational Hand Therapy
The Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy Hand Therapists manage and treat hand injuries referred from Fracture and Emergency Department Hand Clinics. They also provide a service for pre and post-operative elective orthopaedic hand conditions.

Rheumatology Occupational Therapists provide holistic intervention for a wide range of rheumatologic, musculoskeletal and chronic pain conditions, addressing physical and psychological needs. Interventions include hand therapy, fatigue management, joint protection as well as advice on assistive devices, work and leisure.
