The Mental Health Assessment Centre provides a single point of entry to a stepped care model for the delivery of mental health services, offering a service to individuals who suffer from a range of mental health needs including; depression, suicide ideation, significant self-harming behaviours, psychosis, anxiety and panic symptoms.
The service is available seven days a week from 9am to 8pm.
A Mental Health Liaison team is available 8am to 8pm, followed by a “Mental Health at Night” service from 8pm to 8am, in the Ulster Hospital responding to emergency departments and GP out Of Hours referrals in the South Eastern Trust.
In the case of referrals from the urgent Care departments located in Lagan valley Hospital Lisburn and Downe Hospital in Downpatrick, mental health assessment centre staff will attend to complete the assessment or agree an appointment at the local Mental Health Assessment Centre.
Mental Health Assessment Centres
There are three Mental Health Assessment Centres located in Ards Hospital, Lagan valley Hospital and also Finneston House in Downpatrick.
They provides a single point of entry to a stepped care model for the delivery of mental health services, offering a service to individuals who suffer from a range of mental health needs including; depression, suicide ideation, significant self-harming behaviours, psychosis, anxiety and panic symptoms.
Referrals are triaged and individuals offered a Mental Health assessment that looks at their presenting need and offers the most appropriate intervention so aiding an effective person centred, self-directed recovery approach.
When a referral has been accepted the individual will be invited to attend the mental health assessment centre in their locality to engage in a comprehensive initial assessment which will then, in discussion with the individual and their family, be used to inform if further treatment or management as necessary.
