The world of Radiography was unveiled to A Level students from schools across the South Eastern Trust, who were invited to spend a day in the Department in the Ulster Hospital, to learn about the critical role of medical imaging in healthcare.

Students enjoyed an in-depth tour of the hospital’s X-ray, CT, MRI and Ultrasound facilities. They also observed demonstrations of imaging procedures, learned about the technology used in modern diagnostics and had the opportunity to discuss the pathways available to become a qualified Radiographer.

The A level students had an opportunity to chat with practicing Radiographers, ask questions and hear about their experiences working in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

Welcoming the students, Radiology Practice Educator, Christopher Smyth said, “It is so important for school students to have the chance to see what Radiography involves first-hand and to have the opportunity to meet the various Radiography Teams to learn more about the profession. This day was about inspiring the next generation and highlighting the incredible work that Radiographers do every day.

“By facilitating the work experience day, I wanted to create something special and unique for students to give them an opportunity that truly showcases the variety and importance of our profession and why it is a great and rewarding career choice.”
