Coffee morning sessions were held last week across the South Eastern Trust area in Colin, Lisburn, Ards, Bangor and Saintfield and were facilitated by Community Midwifery and Health Visiting Teams along with SureStart to mark World Breastfeeding Week.
In Colin, Mums enjoyed a relaxed sip and paint session, where some stunning pieces of artwork were created. In Saintfield, Bangor and Ards, breastfeeding Mums gathered for coffee mornings featuring coffee, cake and a selection of fresh treats. These get-togethers offered the perfect opportunity to chat, connect and support one another in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Local Mum, Marie Claire Slagter who attended the coffee morning in Saintfield said, “This is a great opportunity for breastfeeding Mums to come together to share tips and advice, have a coffee and share experiences, it is helpful to talk to others who are going through it too and to know you are not alone on your breastfeeding journey.
“Come along, it is a good opportunity to make new friends and it has been really valuable to me as a breastfeeding mum.”
South Eastern Trust Health Visitor, Mary McLaughlin, added, “Breastfeeding can be very challenging, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. These coffee mornings allow us to offer both practical and emotional support. It is not just about tea and coffee, it is a chance for Mums to meet others, share experiences and receive guidance from a Health Visitor if they need it. We want Mums to feel supported, encouraged and connected.”
