Stephen and Neanda McKeown from Conlig have generously donated £800 to the Palliative Care Team in the South Eastern Trust, in recognition of the exceptional care Stephen has received during his treatment.
The funds were raised through a Golf Day organised by Stephen and his close friends in the Ulsterbus Golf Society. Stephen who is this year Captain of the Society, explained that he wanted to give something back to the team that had supported him. “When I was diagnosed with cancer, I made the decision to give something back to the team to recognise how much they have helped me. My friends stepped up to the challenge, with the first round of golf teeing off at 6am and still going strong at 9pm that evening! I was unfortunately hospitalised that week, so a few close friends stepped in and played for me, it was truly amazing.”
Reflecting on the care he received, Stephen added, “I see what the staff in the Palliative Care Team do and it is simply amazing. There are no words that can express how grateful I am. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the Golf Day and to those who donated.”
South Eastern Trust, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Dr Tracy Anderson, expressed gratitude on behalf of the team and stated, “This donation is very much appreciated and we are so touched that Stephen has raised the money for the unit here. The funds will be really well used, supporting both our facilities and the patients in our care.”
