Christmas came early to the Ulster Hospital’s Paediatric Unit this week as the Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh Council, Alderman Amanda Grehan arrived with a very special guest, Santa Claus.
Bringing festive cheer, the Mayor and Santa delivered selection boxes and reading books to young patients, taking the time to chat with families and celebrate the incredible work of staff across the Unit.
Eight-year-old Sienna Dynes was very happy to receive her selection box from Santa. “It was a nice surprise to see Santa,” said Sienna. “It was really good and my favourite chocolate bar was in it, a Freddo.”
“Christmas is about children and we wanted to come to the Ulster Hospital to spread some cheer and give the children a little gift, a selection box or a book,” said Mayor Grehan. “I think the most important person here is Santa and not me,” laughed Amanda. “I am delighted to be here to help Santa and I just want to say a massive thank you to all the staff here at the hospital and wish all of them such a Merry Christmas and a very peaceful New Year.”
Deputy Sister, Chloe Armstrong added, “It was really lovely to have Santa and the Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh here with us in the Unit. It was great to see them give out some festive treats to the children and make their day a little bit better. Seeing Santa meant a lot to the children. We were delighted to welcome them onto the ward and let’s face it, who cannot say no to a selection box!!”
