An adorable Shetland pony was a recent special visitor to the South Eastern Trust’s monthly ‘Making Connections’ group at Kircubbin Community Centre. ‘Mary’ a dwarf Shetland pony from Killinchy’s Tiny Hooves Pony Tales was the centre of attention at the get together which is a chance for those living with Dementia and their families members to come together for chat and connection in an relaxed environment.
South Eastern Trust Senior Social Work Practitioner, Catherine McNiece, shared how during the visit, “Members from the group were able to walk with Mary, gently groom and feed her in a calm and supported setting.”
Catherine continued, “Mary’s steady, quiet temperament allowed each individual to engage at their own pace. For the group members living with Dementia and their carers, the benefits of encouraging social interaction, promoting physical and emotional wellbeing were very evident.
“We want to say thank you to Tiny Hooves Pony Tales for coming along to our meeting and creating such joy for all our members!”
