Safe and Well Volunteer Befrienders from the South Eastern Trust attended a special celebration event at Stormont to mark Befriending Week.
The event, organised by Volunteer Now, brought together Volunteers and organisations from across Northern Ireland to share stories, experiences and reflections on the powerful impact befriending has on both Volunteers and the people they support.
The celebration at Stormont recognised the essential role Befrienders play in reducing loneliness and promoting wellbeing across Northern Ireland, highlighting the importance of connection and compassion in everyday life.
The Safe and Well Befriending Service provides companionship and emotional support to those who may feel isolated or lonely, helping to improve wellbeing and strengthen community connections across the South Eastern Trust area.
One of the Volunteers who attended the event said, “Being a Befriender is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. To be invited to Stormont in recognition of that work is really special.”
South Eastern Trust Safe and Well Coordinator, Lynn Shields added, “I would like to say thank you to our Volunteers for the difference you make in the community and the kindness and warmth you share with those you visit and call in with. You truly make a lasting impact on the lives of others.”
