Trust Nurses Host Stoma Open Day Providing Support After Surgery

10th December 2025

The South Eastern Trust recently hosted a successful Stoma Open Day at La Mon Hotel, welcoming more than 200 patients and guests who have undergone colorectal surgery within the past year.

The Trust’s Colorectal and Stoma Care Nursing Team were on hand throughout the event to speak with attendees, offer advice and guide them to stands showcasing the latest in stoma care.

The open day provided a valuable opportunity for patients to explore a wide range of products from leading stoma care companies, learn about innovations in care and connect with fellow ostomates.

Guest speakers included Nicola Dames, founder of Vanilla Blush, and Donna Martin from B. Braun, who both shared their professional and personal insights into life with a stoma and the ongoing development of supportive products.

A number of voluntary organisations also attended, offering information and support to patients and their families. These included Macmillan Cancer Support, Beating Bowel Cancer UK, Colostomy UK, the Urostomy Association and the Ileostomy Association.

The event was organised by the Trust’s dedicated Colorectal and Stoma Care Nursing Team and supported by several stoma care companies committed to improving patient experience.

Colorectal Nurse Specialist, Sarah Christie said, “We were delighted to welcome so many patients to this year’s Stoma Open Day. Events like this help empower individuals with the knowledge, confidence and support they need as they adjust to life with a stoma.

“It was wonderful to see patients engaging with exhibitors, asking questions and sharing experiences with one another.”
