Staff from the Macmillan Unit at the Ulster Hospital have once again shown their generosity and community spirit by hosting their annual coffee morning, raising an impressive £370 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The much-loved event brought together staff, patients and visitors to enjoy tea, coffee and a delicious array of home-baked treats, all in aid of a cause that means so much to the team.
The funds raised will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support, helping the charity continue its vital work providing emotional, practical, and financial support to people living with cancer and their families.
Assistant Macmillan Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator Jemma Ewing said, “We have received really lovely donations of cakes and sweet treats from our teams and Volunteers who have been busy baking and preparing tea and coffee.
“This is an opportunity to raise much needed funds which goes directly to supporting patients and their care. I feel incredibly lucky to take part in the coffee morning, we have always been so well supported by the teams at the Ulster Hospital. It is a privilege to have everyone here with us to raise some much needed funds.”
Macmillan Unit Volunteer, Margaret McCormack who had baked her famous Lemon Drizzle cake and Cinnamon Apple Scones for the occasion added, “This is my third year here with the South Eastern Trust as a Volunteer. All the funds raised are much appreciated. The coffee mornings give the staff a chance to come together and take some time to be social as well,” said Margaret.
Proudly displaying their baked goods and stamina for a spin and swimathon, Ards Hospital’s Community Mental Health Team raised an incredible £4,100 for Macmillan Cancer.
South Eastern Trust, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Reuben Daly praised the efforts of all who took part in baking, bringing and sticking the pace for their fundraising ’9-5’ spinathon.
“We want to say a massive thank you to all you donated to our recent fundraising drive for Macmillan Cancer. We held a raffle with extremely generous donations from the Grand Central Hotel, Streamvale Farm and Let’s Go Hydro to name but a few. Newtownards Regency Café donated hot food and sandwiches during the event which was held towards the end of September,” said Reuben.
“We were supported by teams from across the Ards Hospital site and had great participation in our quiz, games and we even had two spin bikes that we kept running from 9am-5pm. Five members of our team collaboratively swam 50 miles in the month of September to raise funds and we are delighted to have raised this incredible amount for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
Also setting out their sweet and savoury stall for Macmillan Cancer Support were the South Eastern Trust’s Digital Safety Team who raised over £400 for the charity through their baking efforts.
“We were absolutely delighted with the support we received through staff donations,” said encompass Business Change Manager, Joanne Armstrong.
“We had a great response and discovered a lot of talented bakers on the team!”
