There were smiles and cake galore this week at the Ulster Hospital’s Paediatric Unit as Linda-Ruth ‘Lindy’ Ketley celebrated 40 years of providing dedicated care on the ward.
Lindy was joined by colleagues and friends to mark her momentous milestone as they arranged a surprise party for her. Lindy explained how her Nursing career began in 1985 where she initially worked in England for 18 months before returning home to Northern Ireland. “I have worked in Paediatrics within the South Eastern Trust since 1991 and I have made so many memories of my time here,” said Lindy.
As part of her legacy, Lindy helped to establish the ‘Bruno Bear and Well Teddy Club’ which were set up to reduce anxiety in children who were coming into hospital for their surgery.
Lindy’s colleague and Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Ciara Mitchell paid a warm tribute and added, “Lindy has continued to improve the experience of Paediatric patients undergoing surgery working in ENT, Community Dental, Paediatric General Surgery and now as a Paediatric Preoperative Assessment Nurse. We are delighted to celebrate her incredible forty years of service.”
