The Lady Captain of Kirkistown Castle Golf Club, Gillian Creighton, along with her twin Sister Jackie Cash, presented a cheque to the Breast and Endocrine Centre in the Ulster Hospital for £2,500 after a year of fundraising by the members of the Golf Club, their friends and families.
Both Gillian and Jackie were treated for Breast Cancer in the Centre several years ago and wanted to give something back to the Team who supported them through their treatment and recovery.
Gillian explained, “I am Lady Captain this year and the Breast and Endocrine Centre in the Ulster Hospital was my chosen Charity. I held a charity fundraising Golf Day on 16 May, which raised a significant amount and throughout the year we have also had Christmas wreath-making events, donations on my Captain’s Day and a ballot.
“I would really like to thank the local businesses, the members of Kirkistown Castle Golf Club and everyone who contributed and donated towards the ballot prizes. Their generosity helped make this donation possible.
“I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2011 after finding a lump myself and getting it checked. I went through radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery. Jackie was also diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had to undergo surgery as well. The care we received was fantastic and we really wanted to recognise that.”
Thanking Gillian and Jackie for their generous donation, Macmillan Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist, Lindsay Cash, said, “This is a fabulous donation and very much appreciated. The generosity shown by Gillian, Jackie and everyone at Kirkistown Castle Golf Club will make a real difference to patients using the Breast & Endocrine Centre. It also means so much to our Team to know that the care provided has had such a positive and lasting impact.
“The donation will help support patients attending the Breast & Endocrine Centre at the Ulster Hospital, enhancing services and the patient experience.”
