Snakes And Sunshine As Foster Carers Enjoy A Family Fun Day In Newtownards!

28th May 2026

Families, Foster Carers and children from across the South Eastern Trust area came together for a fabulous Foster Care Family Fun Day at Newtownards’ Ulster Flying Club.

Bathed in sunshine, families enjoyed an afternoon of outdoor activities and a visit from Party Animals much to the delight of the children and young people.

Foster Carer Jacqueline Marshall said,” It was such a lovely day for the children and families to come together and just enjoy themselves. The children had the best time on the inflatables and meeting the animals, especially the pet snake!”

Reflecting on the day’s festivities, Foster Carer Isobel Graham added, “Events like this really make you feel appreciated as a Foster Carer. The children loved every minute of it and it was great to spend time with other fostering families in such a relaxed atmosphere.”

The Trust’s Director of Children’s Services and Executive Director of Social Work Marie Louise Sloan added, “Our families have had such a wonderful time at the Ulster Flying Club. It has been a wonderful way to celebrate the incredible commitment of our Foster Carers and the children and the families that they support everyday. There has been a fantastic atmosphere here and it has been great to see everyone relax, have fun and enjoy their time together.

“As Foster Care Fortnight comes to an end, events like this are an important reminder of the difference Foster Carers can make in the lives of children and young people across our communities.

“We are so grateful for the dedication, compassion and stability that they provide.”

Lending her support to the Fun Day, deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down Borough Council Vicky Moore said, “It has been an absolute pleasure to be here and so lovely to have met some of the children and the families who foster. Their dedication and passion for Fostering is incredible.”
