Two dedicated members of staff at Bangor Hospital’s Outpatients Department have been recognised for their long service with the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust.

Shirley McVea has been with the Trust for over 40 years, beginning her career in 1984 as a Medical Records Clerical Administrator at James Street, Newtownards. She later moved to Medical Records in Ards Hospital before settling into her current role as a Health Records Administrator in Bangor Hospital Outpatients Department, where she has worked for the past 27 years. Shirley has played a crucial role in managing administrative duties for clinics such as Venesection, Pessaries, Biologics, Phlebotomy, Haematology and Ortho ICATS.

John Todd has also dedicated many years to the Trust, having started his career just over 25 years ago in the Ulster Hospital’s Outpatients Department. He then moved to Bangor Hospital Outpatients Department, where he has been a familiar face at the reception desk for the last 24 years. John provides essential support to patients, assisting them with check-in, directing them to the appropriate areas, booking and rescheduling appointments.

Outpatients Department Sister, Nicky Rowley, praised their contributions, stating, “Shirley and John are great assets to have on the team, they keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. I am proud to have them as part of  the team. It is important to recognise the years they have dedicated to the Trust.”

As a token of appreciation for their hard work and commitment, Shirley and John were presented with flowers and a cake in recognition of their service.
