Directors Put On Their Running Shoes to Tackle the London Marathon

26th April 2023

“The London Marathon is just a fantastic experience. The crowds cheering everyone on were incredible!”

The thoughts of South Eastern HSC Trust Director of Finance and Estates, Wendy Thompson, who along with her colleague Director of Unscheduled Care, Marc Neil completed the London Marathon on Sunday 23 April 2023.

Over 49,000 people took part in this year’s marathon and ran a course of 26.2 miles which took them past some of London’s most iconic landmarks including; Buckingham Palace, The Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf.

Wendy added, “It was a brilliant day despite the heavy rain. The spectators, gospel choirs and musicians who lined the route were amazing. The atmosphere was electric which really helped spur everyone on. I enjoyed it all and was even more delighted that I crossed the finish line!”

Director of Unscheduled Care, Marc Neil echoed Wendy’s thoughts commenting, “I was really pleased with my final time of 2:42:19. The experience was truly unique and the crowd support was incredible from start to finish. There were certain wow moments that will stick with me forever, for example when I ran past Buckingham Palace and turned into the Mall. That was a feeling like no other!

“The London Marathon was an incredible day for me and I would like to thank my wife and my family for their support and the sacrifices they have made over the past 18 weeks to get me here.”
