Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Craig Renfrew has retired following a remarkable 27 year career which included 16 years as Director of Medical Education – making him the longest-serving Director of Medical Education in the UK.
Craig has been committed not only to providing high-quality care as a Consultant Anaesthetist, but also to supporting the education, development and wellbeing of medical staff across the Trust.
Craig also played an important role during the COVID-19 pandemic, working with colleagues across a range of specialties during an unprecedented period for Health and Social Care.
Reflecting on his 27 years with the Trust, Craig said, “I have greatly appreciated the support, dedication and commitment of staff. One of the things I have particularly enjoyed has been working collaboratively with colleagues across all specialisms and right across the Trust.
“I have been very fortunate to have worked with so many fantastic people over the years and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have had during my career.”
South Eastern Trust, Medical Director, Professor Stephen Kirk paid tribute to Craig and wished him a long and happy retirement, “Craig has made an exceptional contribution to the South Eastern Trust over the past 27 years. His dedication as a Consultant Anaesthetist and his outstanding commitment to Medical Education have had a lasting impact on colleagues across the organisation.
“To serve as Director of Medical Education for 16 years is a remarkable achievement and reflects the respect and confidence that Craig has earned from colleagues throughout his career.
“His contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic was also hugely valued as he worked alongside colleagues across the Trust during an incredibly challenging time.
