“You cannot underestimate the importance of front line safeguarding and there is nowhere more front line than being a Foster Carer.”

The thoughts of CEO of INEQE Safeguarding Group, Jim Gamble who delivered an informative online safeguarding talk to a group of foster carers and Trust social work staff on Thursday 4 May 2023 in the Great Hall, Downshire Hospital.

Jim is a renowned child protection expert who has worked on some of the biggest child protection safeguarding enquires in recent history and is well informed of the dangers our young people can face in the digital world. He shared his knowledge around good practices for online safety, children’s vulnerability to online harm and introduced the crowd to the INEQE’s latest educational storybook resources.

Jim commented, “It’s been a real privilege to be here today and share information to educate and empower foster carers to be better equipped to talk to and advise the young people they care for about online safety. I am humbled by the people in this room and they work they do to keep young people safe and well daily.”

Assistant Director Cared for Children, Maurice Largey who hosted the event added, “This event has been a great opportunity for our Fostering Community to get together and learn about how best to protect our young people online.

“I would like to thank Jim and his team for delivering a great presentation today and to thank our foster carers for their ongoing support and the dedication they give to their roles. Their continuous commitment to their ongoing development, learning and training is a testament of their devotion to the young people they care for.”

Foster Care Fortnight runs between 15 – 28 May 2023 and is traditionally a time that we showcase the great work of our foster carers but also encourage others who are thinking about that role to make enquires. If you are interested in becoming a Foster Care you can call 0800 0720 137 or visit the website: www.adoptionandfostercare.hscni.net to find out more information.”
