Holywood’s Newcroft Lodge Keeps it in the Family with Sisters and Their Daughters Working Side by Side

Sisters Linda Mills and Julie Larmour are familiar faces among the residents of Holywood’s Newcroft Lodge Care Home. Such is their passion and commitment to their Care Assistant roles that they inspired their daughters, Charly and Danielle, to follow their footsteps into the caring profession – and they now all work together at Newcroft! “I had my induction in the womb,” laughs 20-year-old Newcroft Lodge Home Care Assistant Charly Mills who works with her mum Linda. “I have been at Newcroft for three years now. I just love it here, every day is completely different.” Charly’s mum, Senior Care Assistant Linda has been at Newcroft for a quarter of a century and she explained how her daughter, “Wasn’t even born when I started here.” “One year ran into the next and I have been at Newcroft for 25 years now. It is great to meet all kinds of different people and we are lucky that we get to see each other and spend more time together,” said Linda. Linda’s colleague Julie Larmour is celebrating 15 years at Newcroft. Julie also works with her daughter Danielle. “The people that you have the opportunity to meet, all the wee residents and their families, you get to know them and it’s nice to be their support too,” said Julie. Danielle shared how working as a Care Assistant, “Is all I have ever known.” “I love it here at Newcroft. I followed mum in her footsteps and now we work together at Newcroft.” Collectively the Care Assistant quartet said they find their roles, “Very rewarding. The rewards outweigh the challenges. We are a brilliant support for each other.”
