Inspiring Foster Children Honoured at Achievement Awards

11th February 2025

There was great excitement in the air on Saturday 1st February 2025 as the South Eastern Trust Fostering Service, together with The Fostering Network, celebrated the achievements of the children and young people in foster care at our annual Fostering Achievement & Attainment Awards.

Spiderman and Elsa from Frozen made a special appearance at the La Mon House Hotel in Belfast and there was also balloon modelling and face painting, much to the delight of the younger children.

The stars of the show were of course the foster children in the Trust. The Director of Children’s Services in the South Eastern Trust, Lyn Preece explained, “This is a very special awards ceremony which rightly recognises our fantastic foster children. I was delighted to present the awards, listen to why they so deserved them and also see how much they mean to the children. We are forever indebted to our wonderful foster carers who give hope a home every single day. What they do is incredible.”

The awards ranged from fantastic sporting achievements, educational attainment, and creative arts. There were also awards for kindness, patience and resilience.

The Chairman of the Trust, Jonathan Patton, spent time with the foster carers and thanked them for the valuable contribution they make to the lives of the children and young people in their care.

Speaking after the ceremony the Chairman said, “I felt honoured to be there and witness for myself the outstanding achievements of all our foster children. It is important to recognise what they have accomplished. They really deserve these awards.
