Lagan Valley Midwifery Unit Celebrates 10 Years

2nd February 2021

Since the Midwifery Led Unit (MLU) opened in Lagan Valley Hospital in 2011, 1515 babies have been welcomed into the world by the amazing and dedicated staff.  The unit was voted ‘Best Maternity Unit in Northern Ireland’ in 2018 and was runner up in 2019 at the NI Positive Birth Conference, which promotes a positive childbirth philosophy in a calm relaxing atmosphere.

The midwives provide a fully integrated service, providing antenatal, intranatal and postnatal care for women in the local community. The team also provide universal care with a variety of clinics including; 11 midwife led clinics, 8 booking clinics, additional growth scan clinics and they host obstetricians 3 times per week to advocate for women requiring additional care as well as providing a smooth transition to the Health Visiting Team postnatally.

We would like to wish everyone in the team a very Happy 10th Birthday and look forward to the service continuing to provide great care for mothers and welcoming babies in the future.
