A South Eastern Trust staff member has celebrated an impressive sporting achievement after winning a bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships in Winnipeg, Canada.
Datix Systems Manager, Richard Earney, represented Northern Ireland at the prestigious championships, which were organised by the Commonwealth Powerlifting Federation and brought together more than 750 lifters from across the Commonwealth.
Competitors took part across a range of age, weight and competition categories in three powerlifting disciplines, the squat, bench press and deadlift.
Northern Ireland was represented by 49 lifters, with athletes competing across multiple male and female age and weight categories.
Richard secured bronze in the Bench Press, adding a Commonwealth medal to his sporting achievements.
Speaking about his achievement, Richard said, “Competing at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Canada was an experience I will never forget. Representing Northern Ireland and coming home with a bronze medal made all the hard work to get there worth it.”
