The dedicated team in the Neonatal Unit at the Ulster Hospital have crafted handmade festive stockings for babies who will be spending their first Christmas in the Unit.
To bring a sense of Christmas joy to the Unit for parents, staff have ensured that each baby will have a stocking with a little knitted Teddy bear and knitted Santa and hat to mark their first Christmas.
Families with babies in the Neonatal Unit will be able to take home the stockings as keepsakes when they are ready to celebrate their future Christmas celebrations at home.
Neo Natal Nurse Cathy Ervine who has been in her chosen specialty for 17 years said, “We make sure that the babies who are with us over Christmas each have a stocking with a little knitted Teddy bear, a little knitted Santa and hat and a very special handmade ornament that reads, ‘Baby’s First Christmas’.
“The keepsakes were handmade by Tony Martin who is the Dad of one of our Nurses in the Unit and it is such a lovely token to give to our parents. We decorate the Unit to make it that bit more festive for the parents and families.
“The handmade keepsakes really are a keepsake forever for those parent’s baby’s very first Christmas.”
