Ulster Hospital’s Renal Unit Receives Generous Donation from Portavogie Rangers Football Club

A Portavogie family have honoured their late father’s memory by donating over £1,000 to the Ulster Hospital’s Renal Unit, as a way of saying thanks for the exceptional care he received while undergoing dialysis.

Seasoned Portavogie Rangers player David Cully explained how the family wanted to give back to the Unit and praised the staff for the compassionate care their much loved father Robert, who passed away in 2019, received while he was undergoing treatment.

David shared how he held his testimonial match on Easter Tuesday against his former football club Ards and was able to pick a charity of his choice. “I chose the Ulster Hospital’s Renal Unit as a way of saying thank you to everyone who looked after Dad so well.”

“The Renal Unit and the staff here have always been in our hearts. Dad was always really well looked after when he came here. The family thought it would be nice to give something back. Dad came to the Unit three times a week. We took turns bringing him here and picking him up so we got to know the staff.”

“We raised £1,620 and I want to thank everyone who donated.”

Ulster Hospital Lead Nurse Renal Services Amanda Byers added, “The Cully Family have fundraised for the Renal Unit previously and for them to think about us again is very much appreciated. The funds will be used to improve the comfort and experience of patients that attend for dialysis in the Unit.”
