Revved up for Awareness Bikers Hit the Road to Raise Awareness for Foster Care Fortnight

14th May 2025

Crawfordsburn Country Park will open its doors on Saturday to welcome a cavalcade of biker enthusiasts who have taken to the road to raise awareness and champion Foster Care Fortnight.

The bikers, some of whom are foster carers, will make five whistle stops in each Trust area to meet the public, fostering staff, fellow foster carers and supporters in the communities.

The tour will start at Belfast city centre’s Royal Avenue before travelling to Helen’s Bay, Ballymena, Omagh and finally Armagh.

This year’s Foster Care Fortnight theme, ‘The Power of Relationships’, aims to raise awareness about fostering and the positive impact it has on children’s lives. It highlights the importance of strong, supportive relationships within the fostering community, and the difference these connections can make for children and young people in care.

Foster carer Gareth Irvine, who will be leading the biker tour said, “As a foster carer and keen motorcycle enthusiast I thought bringing those passions together would make a great event to hopefully raise some awareness around fostering and the urgent need for more foster carers, particularly during Foster Care Fortnight.”

South Eastern Trust Head of Service, Nuala Hanna added, “We are excited to welcome the bikers to our Family Fun Day celebrations which are taking place in Crawfordsburn Country Park on Saturday. The bikers will bring their unique energy to a fun packed day for all the family to enjoy as we mark the dedication and commitment of our fostering community.”
