The recent ‘Diversity Lunch’ held in Café Connects across the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust, raised an amazing £574.07 for the Stroke Association Northern Ireland.
Hosted by Stroke Specialist, Dr Jeenat Khan, along with Catering Teams in the Ulster, Downe and Lagan Valley Hospitals, the lunch featured a variety of delicious dishes including Harissa Salmon, Beef and Bean Burritos, Piri-Piri Chicken Fillet, Sweet Potato Curry, baby boiled potatoes and chives along with Jeenat’s rice, Tamarind chutney, poppadum’s and a vegetable medley.
Many of the dishes on offer have never been served before in hospital canteens and the event provided a unique culinary experience showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the diverse workforce across the South Eastern Trust.
Delighted with the support for the lunch, Dr Khan said, “We held this event to not only raise awareness about stroke, but to promote our staff diversity within the Trust. It was a great opportunity for staff to come together and sample an exciting menu whilst raising funds for a good cause.
“Everyone enjoyed the lunch and it was so successful that everything was sold out! I am delighted that we raised money for the Stroke Association, it is so important to support our local charities. I would like to thank the Catering Teams across the Trust for helping to arrange this wonderful event.”
Expressing thanks for the donation, Stroke Association NI, Regional Fundraiser, Madeline Donnelly added, “I would like to thank Dr Khan and the Catering Teams for all the work that was done to make this possible, it has been incredible.
“The money that has been raised at the lunch will go towards our emotional support programme, helping those who have had a stroke to be able to access much needed support.”
