Bangor’s inspirational Alison Mathieson, who is currently fighting breast cancer has thanked all those who got behind her fundraising drive that saw a mammoth £10,000 raised for the Macmillan Unit at the Ulster Hospital.
Alison first fought breast cancer in 2002, 2011 before finding out it had returned in 2023. “I have had breast cancer three times and I honestly can’t thank the Macmillan staff here at the Ulster Hospital enough for their treatment and their support.”
Alison explained how the Mathieson family set up a Go Fund Me page and together with her husband and sons took part in a group Brave The Shave – even with one of her sons living in Australia who took part virtually!
“Chris Palmer from Bangor based Outsiders Male Grooming came and helped the family as we shaved our heads. I can’t thank my friends and family enough for all the kind, amazing donations. I wanted to give back to the nurses and doctors at the Macmillan Unit as they have been so supportive to me over the years. We have been so overwhelmed by people’s generosity.”
Alison’s husband Bobby added, “Myself, Alison and all the family would like to thank everybody that works in the Macmillan Unit for all the help she has had. Alison has been treated like a queen and we can’t thank the staff on the Unit enough for all they have done.”
Macmillan Cancer Unit Ward Sister Angela Berry said, “This is amazing fundraising work by the Mathieson family and we are very grateful for the donation to the Macmillan Unit.”
