The smallest acts of kindness and appreciation of staff is to the fore at the Ulster Hospital’s Macmillan Unit as part of their much celebrated ‘Be Kind’ initiative.
The hospital’s heartfelt ‘kindness campaign’ began its inception through the Paediatrics Team and is now going from strength to strength as staff go out of their way to spread a sprinkle of kindness and joy to their fellow colleagues on the ward. As part of the project, staff can complete, anonymously or not, a feedback form, praising their colleagues and how they have helped them lift spirits, or something as simple as boiling the kettle for a cuppa while on their shift. The forms can then be placed into the ‘Kindess Box’ and a ‘shining star’ recipient chosen to take a treat from it.
South Eastern Trust, Interim Lead Nurse and Wellbeing Champion, Karen Orr said, “We want to thank everyone who has contributed to our ‘Wellbeing Box’ so far and to thank all of the staff for engaging and taking the time to provide lovely feedback for their colleagues. Our kindness campaign is going really well and will undoubtedly have a positive effect for our patients and their families.”
Macmillan Unit Ward Sister, Angela Berry added, “It’s fantastic to see our staff prioritising kindness to one another, this is a lovely way to let our staff know how much they are thought of and appreciated for all that they do.”
