The complexities of hormonal changes during menopause and their impact on hair health will form part of the South Eastern Trust’s next Menopause Café session to be held at Downpatrick Technical College on Thursday April 25th at 7pm.
Leading hair trichologist Bridgeen King, whose clinic is based in the Slieve Donard Resort, said those women who attend on the evening will gain “invaluable insights into the science behind menopausal hair loos, understand how hormonal fluctuations affect hair growth cycles.”
Bridgeen said, “As part of the Café event we will talk about how to recognise and learn to identify early indications of hair loss and distinguish them from other common hair issues. I will talk over strategies for management and help on how to discover practical tips and lifestyle adjustments to promote hair vitality during and after menopause.”
Senior Social Work Practitioner Julie McAleese explained that Bridgeen had contacted her after hearing of the Menopause Cafes and wanted to undertake a session after she had had an increasing number of women contact her after experiencing hair loss while going through menopause.
Julie said, “We have agreed to undertake a café specifically to cover this area. The overall aim of the cafés and events is to promote health literacy and equip women with the tools to manage their menopausal symptoms. The cafes promote informal support, a relaxed atmosphere and also ensures that complex health information can be easily discussed and understood.”
Julie continued: “Feedback consistently highlights the importance of getting quality information that informs health choices that women make on a daily basis and we are delighted to welcome Bridgeen and her knowledge to our upcoming Café in April.”
