Easter joy touched down in the Neonatal Unit in the Ulster Hospital with a heart-warming display of talent and generosity. On Easter Sunday, neonatal babies were showered with love and joy with a selection of adorable Easter gifts crafted by staff and their families.
Each little baby received a special cream egg holder, marking their first Easter celebration along with a cosy hat and cardigan lovingly dubbed “our little Easter chicks” that added an extra touch of warmth and cuteness.
The Easter surprises didn’t end there as Consultant Neonatologist, Dr Nita Saxena showcased her knitting skills by handcrafting Easter bunnies for each baby’s bedside, serving as a comforting companion during their time in the Neonatal Unit. The wool was generously donated by Paediatric Registrar, Dr Alison Boles and her mother-in-law along with Consultant Paediatrician Dr Nuala Flanagan. The wooden egg holders were supplied by the father of Staff Nurse Katrina Wilson.
Staff Nurse Nikita Harron said, “I would like to thank the staff and their families who generously donated towards these special Easter gifts for the babies. As a Nurse, caring for the tiniest patients in the unit, witnessing the smiles on the faces of families and the comfort these Easter gifts bring to our babies is just so lovely.
“The generosity from the handmade Easter bunnies, cardigans, hats and egg holders to the thoughtful donations of wool is very much appreciated.”
Parents and siblings also received an Easter egg thanks to the very kind donation of eggs to the Paediatric Unit in the Ulster Hospital over the Easter period.
