The South Eastern Trust is creating exciting new career opportunities with the opening of Redwood Children’s Home in East Belfast.

The brand new, two bedded children’s residential space is set to open soon.  An information day for those interested in working with young people with learning disabilities and complex needs will be held in the coming weeks. Over 20 new job opportunities are available for people qualified and experienced in social work, nursing or social care. Posts range from Managers to Support Workers.

Head of Service for Children’s Disability in South Eastern Trust, Lorraine Noade, emphasised, “This is a really exciting time in Children’s Disability services. The Minister of Health’s recent announcement of a just over £13m investment across the Region means that we are going to be able to significantly grow and develop our services to better meet the needs of children, young people and families.”

“These are the first of many new jobs that will be available in South Eastern Trust’s Children’s Disability services over the next few months.  We are hosting an open day on Saturday 8 March 2025 at the Mount Business Conference Centre, Woodstock Link from 10am – 4pm.  If you are interested in supporting young people with disabilities please come along to meet the team, interview on the day and find out more about Redwood and our plans for the service.  We really look forward to seeing you there.”

South Eastern Trust Residential Social Worker Ryan Maguire described that for him, “Supporting young people with disabilities is an experience that will change you as an individual, as a practitioner and it will offer you an opportunity to grow. By watching young people and developing their skills, you are developing with them,” said Ryan.

Ryan shared how his favourite thing about his role within the Trust is, “Being creative in our practice and supporting young people living with disability to express their views and wishes. It is a great privilege to be part of that journey. To see a child express themselves really gives me value.”

Ryan continued, “Every challenge presents an opportunity for growth.  In residential services we place a focus on supporting each other through those challenges. We know that if the staff feel supported, they can better support the young people. That is the ethos of the home where I am based – we are like a family in that sense.”

Ryan added how much he gets back professionally and personally from his role as a Residential Social Worker. “It has led me to become a better practitioner and a more confident social worker. I don’t work with young people – I support young people.”

Ryan’s colleague Residential Team Leader Suzie DeCruz said, “The interactions that we have with the children are fabulous. To see them develop and grow, we really do get a lot back from the children.”

When asked what she takes away from her role within the Trust as a Residential Support Worker Karen McHaffie stated, “No two days are ever the same. The staff are so knowledgeable and everyone has their own skill set and different abilities which makes the team work so well together. As a team we really compliment each other.”
