The Chief Executive of The South Eastern Trust, Roisin Coulter, has praised and thanked, “The incredible work of the teams in the Trust who responded so quickly, calmly and safely to the Major Incident Declaration”, following the bus accident in Carrowdore, County Down yesterday afternoon.
“I am really proud of everyone who went above and beyond to care for the patients who needed our help.”
Medical and surgical teams, nursing staff, paediatric teams, radiology, social workers, patient experience teams and the Ambulance Service, to name but a few, joined forces to treat the injured children who arrived in the Ulster Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED).
Over forty children have been treated in the Emergency Department at the Ulster Hospital, to date. Four of the patients arrived by ambulance. Two remain in the Ulster Hospital. Their injuries are not life threatening.
Associate Medical Director and ED Consultant Sean McGovern explained, “The Trust immediately implemented its own Major Incident Plan and I would like to thank the public, especially those who were waiting in the ED at the time of the Major Incident Declaration by the Ambulance Service, for their patience and understanding.
“I am so proud of the excellent response of all our staff who were already dealing with a very busy Monday. Our utmost priority was to treat as many patients as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We hope anyone who was injured or impacted in any way, makes a full and speedy recovery.”
