A moving staff service of remembrance was held on the evening of 15th May at the Ulster Hospital to honour and remember 12 valued colleagues who sadly passed away last year.
The service held each May, provides an opportunity for staff and bereaved families to come together in shared grief and remembrance. This year 125 people attended the emotional evening, which featured music, reflection and candles were lit for all those who dedicated their careers to caring for others.
Stormont’s Community Choir, under the direction of Audrey Gillian, provided beautiful musical accompaniment throughout the evening. The theme of service this year was recovery and strength, symbolising both personal resilience and the bonds that binds the Trust together in times of loss. With a workforce of over 12,000 people, the Trust mourns the loss of several staff members each year. This service is a way to ensure their contributions are never forgotten.
Trust Bereavement Coordinator Donna Louise Laird said, “It was a beautiful but emotional service. Families came together to pay tribute and celebrate a loved one who had recently passed away.”
In addition to honouring the lives and service of the late colleagues, the event also offers families a space to grieve together and to feel the enduring connection with their loved ones’ workplace.
The Executive Director of Nursing David Robinson reflected, “It is so important that the families of our staff who have sadly passed away are reassured that the Trust continues to honour their legacy.
This is such a poignant and emotional annual event which really is a time for families and our staff to come together and remember their loved ones, who will never be forgotten in the Trust. I feel very honoured to be there each year. ”
