Ulster Hospital Staff Pedal The Periphery Raising Vital Funds For Pancreatic Cancer Charity

16th June 2026

Staff from the Ulster Hospital recently took part in the challenging Pedal the Periphery 2026 event, helping to raise vital funds for NIPANC, Northern Ireland’s only Pancreatic Cancer charity.

So far, the Team has raised an impressive £7,250, with additional donations still coming in. The fundraising effort will support NIPANC’s work in providing information, support and advocacy for patients and families affected by Pancreatic Cancer across Northern Ireland.

The endurance cycling challenge sees Teams relay cycle approximately 480 miles around the perimeter of Northern Ireland within 48 hours.

Among those taking part was South Eastern Trust, Consultant Physician, Dr Eleanor Campbell, who was a member of the all-female team, JB Fitness Flyers. The Team of 13 women represented a wide range of cycling experience and personal circumstances. Some participants had borrowed bikes specifically for the event, while others were returning to fitness following maternity leave. One Team Member had recently undergone surgery and another was continuing her own cancer recovery journey.

The team completed the challenge while raising awareness of Pancreatic Cancer and supporting the work of NIPANC.

Dr Campbell said, “Taking part in Pedal the Periphery was an incredible experience. The event pushed all of us beyond our comfort zones, but it was made worthwhile knowing that we were raising funds and awareness for such an important cause. The determination shown by every member of our Team was inspiring and I am proud to have been part of this challenge.”

Also taking part in the challenge as part of another Team who raised an incredible £13,200, was Consultant Gastroenterologist, Dr Grant Caddy.  Dr Caddy added, “Pancreatic Cancer remains one of the most challenging cancers to diagnose and treat, making the work of NIPANC so important. Events such as Pedal the Periphery not only raise much-needed funds, but also help shine a spotlight on the support available to patients and families.

“It was a privilege to take part and contribute to the charity’s vital work.”
